From Blogger to WordPress

January 4th, 2005

Transferring from Blogger to WordPress today proved much simpler than I thought.

Here’s how I did it. There’s a good set of illustrated instructions here as well as these instructions on the WordPress web site. My only problem was that Blogger published December’s posts in a file without using the right date format in the filename (That’s probably because I only had one month’s worth of posts). Anyway, I renamed the file and ran the import. All in all, the migration went very smoothly. It really does take five minutes to install WordPress but what took longer was setting up a new host, changing the default templates and tweaking the site to my liking (I’m still doing that…).

So what’s next? I’m concerned about comment spam (a growing menace) but am prepared to meet that challenge using various techniques. By the way, I’ve no interest in gambling so don’t even think of posting spam about p&ker here. (that word is banned…) Comment moderation will be left switched on for a while too.

If you want to look at my old blog, it’s here. Blogger is great for a first time user but if you’re after real power and control (especially over comment spammers), do try WordPress. There’s an online version you can play with here. Why not take it for a test drive?
